Uploading (or importing) audio files

If you have pre-existing audio or video (like an edited podcast, interview, or voice memo), or if you prefer to record and edit your audio or video with advanced software, you can upload your files to your Spotify for Podcasters account.

There are two ways to upload audio files to Spotify for Podcasters: 

  • Create an episode: Explore different segments of your audio library, and drag and drop segments in your episode builder.
  • Quick upload: Skip all the frills and jump right into publishing.

Note: It's against our Terms of Service to upload audio that’s copyrighted or belongs to someone else.

Uploading audio on web via Create an episode:

  1. Click New Episode then Create an episode.
  2. Click Browse and upload the audio file from your device.
  3. Use the tabs on the left to add other audio segments to your episode.
  4. Click Save changes once you’re ready, then give your episode a title, description, and publish date.

Uploading audio on web via Quick upload:

  1. Click New episode then Quick upload.
  2. Find and upload the audio file from your device.
  3. Once the file has finished processing, you’ll be able to publish your episode.

Uploading audio on the mobile app:

  1. Go to Tools and tap the + button.
  2. Go to Library.
  3. Tap Import.
  4. Select the audio file from your device. 

You can also share audio files to Spotify for Podcasters from any app on your device. Steps can vary for each app.

Supported file types and limits

We support files up to 250MB. If your file is larger than 250MB, we recommend compressing it before uploading.

We support these file types:

  • MP3
  • M4A
  • WAV
  • MPG
  • MOV
  • MP4

Tip: If you’re uploading MP3 files, we recommend keeping embedded artwork, ID3v2 tags, and other metadata as small as possible.

If you're getting an error during upload, check:

Converting video files to audio

  1. Click New Episode  then Create an episode.
  2. Find and upload the video file from your device.
  3. Once you’ve added your video file to the episode builder, we’ll begin extracting the audio.
  4. Once extracted, your audio file will appear in your episode builder with the label Audio only next to the file name.
  5. From here, treat this audio as you would a normal audio segment.
